OLAMOVE is a smart mobility and cleantech company accelerating the transition to affordable electric mobility and clean energy. We assemble new electric motorbikes, convert suitable fuel-powered ones to electric, and provide electric mobility solutions for individuals and businesses through direct sales, leasing and rental models.
Rwanda's transport sector remains dependent on imported fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, high operating costs and exposure to fuel price fluctuations. OLAMOVE addresses these challenges by replacing internal combustion motorcycles with efficient electric alternatives. Our electric motorbikes can reduce operating and ownership costs by up to 40% while cutting vehicle-related emissions by more than 90%.
Beyond mobility, OLAMOVE promotes a circular battery economy through OlaEnergy, which gives retired electric vehicle batteries a second life in energy storage and backup power applications. Through local assembly, battery repurposing, digital technologies and flexible financing models, OLAMOVE is expanding access to green mobility, creating green jobs and contributing to Rwanda's transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Project Smiling Children is a humanitarian initiative of Humans for Peace Institution dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world who are born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate and who cannot access the specialized medical treatment they need because of poverty, geographic isolation, limited healthcare infrastructure, or lack of specialized services.
The project is based on a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves access to essential healthcare, dignity, inclusion, and the opportunity to smile with confidence, regardless of where they were born or their family's financial circumstances.
Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most visible congenital conditions affecting children. Beyond the physical appearance, untreated cleft conditions can create significant challenges with feeding, nutrition, speech, hearing, dental health, breathing, social interaction, and emotional well-being. Children may also experience bullying, discrimination, stigma, and social isolation. For families living in poverty, the cost of specialized surgery and related medical care can be impossible to afford.
In many communities, the challenge is not that the condition cannot be treated. The necessary surgical procedures are available and can dramatically improve a child's health and quality of life. The challenge is access. A child may live hundreds of kilometres from a specialized hospital, while the family may have no financial means to pay for surgery, transportation, accommodation, medical supplies, or follow-up care.
Project Smiling Children seeks to help close this gap.

Dr. Mohd Jamal Alsharif is a remarkable humanitarian and lifelong volunteer whose impact extends across Canada and around the world with more than 1000 hours annualy. Since arriving in Canada, he has devoted more than 20 years to serving diverse communities, including Japanese, Indian, Pakistani, Arab, Palestinian, Chinese, Yemeni, Ukrainian, Latino, and many others. He has worked tirelessly to support newcomers, with a special focus on children suffering from PTSD and trauma caused by war.
Internationally, Dr. Alsharif has participated and volunteered in numerous medical missions, providing life-changing surgeries for children born with cleft lips and palates around the globe. He has also dedicated himself to building two schools in Madagascar and supporting education initiatives in refugee camps worldwide, ensuring access to education for the most vulnerable.
As the founder of Humans for Peace Institution, a global volunteer organization with more than 5,000 volunteers, Dr. Alsharif champions peace, education, and public health for all. His leadership and vision have inspired countless individuals to serve their communities.
Dr. Alsharif’s contributions have been recognized through numerous prestigious honors, including the World Peace Award, the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers of Canada, recognition as an Ottawa City Builder, 3 years as a face of volunteer for Faces Ottawa, top 25 immigrant awards , United Way Volunteer Awards, and permanent recognition on Ottawa City Hall’s Wall of Distinguished Volunteers, and many others.
Dr. Alsharif embodies the true spirit of volunteerism. His lifelong commitment to humanitarian service, both locally and globally, has transformed lives and continues to inspire others to work toward peace and compassion.

This project presents an optimized VGG16-based deep learning system for automated brain tumor classification from MRI scans, achieving 94% accuracy and a mean AUC of 0.991 across four classes — Glioma, Meningioma, Pituitary, and No Tumor — using a dataset of 7,023 images. The model incorporates Grad-CAM explainability for clinical transparency, showing radiologists exactly which brain region influenced each decision. A comparative study of five CNN architectures under identical conditions confirmed VGG16 as the best performer, and the complete system was deployed as a clinical web application with tumor segmentation, brain region mapping, and uncertainty detection.

AIDFI’s holistic ram pump water program brings safe and accessible water to remote upland communities that are often excluded from conventional water systems because they are too far, too high, too poor, or too difficult to reach. At the heart of the program is the hydraulic ram pump, a simple and durable technology that uses the energy of flowing water to pump a portion uphill without fuel, electricity, solar panels, or greenhouse-gas emissions. But the project is much more than the installation of a pump.
AIDFI works with the community from the very beginning. Before construction starts, the villagers are organized into a water association that will later own, manage, and sustain the system. Through this process, AIDFI helps revive the Filipino tradition of Bayanihan — the spirit of cooperation, mutual help, and care for one another. This tradition has many local names in different dialects, but the meaning is the same: people come together to solve a common problem. The water association becomes the structure through which this spirit is mobilized and maintained.
Community members contribute many volunteer hours. They attend meetings, help identify water needs, assist in household baseline surveys, clear pathways, carry materials, prepare the route for pipelines, help during construction, and support the installation of reservoirs, tapstands, ram pumps, or water kiosks. Local volunteers also help organize the General Assembly, elect officers, and form committees. Village technicians are selected and trained so that the community itself can operate and maintain the system.
Volunteer opportunities can support both the social and technical sides of the program. Social-work volunteers can assist with household baseline surveys, community profiling, orientation meetings, documentation, women’s and household participation, and strengthening the water association. Technical or hands-on volunteers can support construction, pipeline preparation, installation activities, monitoring, and post-installation follow-up. Volunteers can also help with documentation, storytelling, impact surveys, and learning exchanges between communities.
The program creates direct results: less time and hardship in fetching water, improved health and sanitation, more water for household use, vegetable growing and livestock, stronger local cooperation, and greater involvement of women and village leaders. By combining appropriate technology with community ownership and revived volunteerism, AIDFI’s holistic ram pump program does not simply deliver water. It helps communities build the system, own it, sustain it, and use it as a trigger for wider development.

Last Mile Water: Triggering Sustainable Futures

Auke Idzenga, a Dutch, is co-founder and CEO of AIDFI, a Philippine Social Enterprise founded in 1992. He studied Marine Engineering and sailed three ships before making a complete turn around and utilize his interest, knowledge, and skills in Appropriate Technologies for the poor. In 1985 he chose the Philippines and designed a unique ram pump which became part of AIDFI. Over the years AIDFI installed environment friendly ram pump water systems in 602 upland waterless villages benefitting some 303.000 people. For their holistic work with ram pumps AIDFI received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2011. Many more prestigious international awards would follow. In 2019, for having worked over 30 years for the poor, Auke received himself the St. Teresa of Calcutta Award as ‘Engineer for the poor’. AIDFI is owned by its regualr staff and some affiliates. It has 30 fulltime employees of which each provide at least 50 hours volunteering to the communities AIDFI serves.

Rural Development Initiative (RDI Rwanda), under the leadership of its Founder Aimé Kayumba, is currently implementing the project “Restoring Livelihoods and Community Resilience for Conflict-Affected Smallholder Farmers in Rubavu District” to support vulnerable border communities affected by the ongoing insecurity and armed conflict in Eastern DRC, particularly around Goma and North Kivu Province. The project directly targets over 1,500 smallholder farmers, 800 women and youth entrepreneurs, and 300 vulnerable households across the sectors of Gisenyi, Rubavu, Nyamyumba, Busasamana, Kanzenze, and Cyanzarwe, where livelihoods and cross-border economic activities have been severely disrupted by the instability involving M23, FARDC, and regional military tensions along the Rwanda–DRC border. Since the escalation of insecurity in Eastern DRC, many farming households in Rubavu experienced declining agricultural sales, reduced market access, loss of informal trading opportunities, and increased food insecurity due to the disruption of economic exchanges with Goma. In response, RDI has supported vulnerable households through climate-smart agriculture initiatives, distribution of improved seeds and farming inputs, establishment of 45 demonstration plots and 300 kitchen gardens, strengthening of 60 farmer cooperatives and VSLA groups, entrepreneurship and financial literacy training for youth and women, and small business recovery support for affected families. The project also mobilizes more than 200 youth volunteers in peacebuilding, environmental conservation, psychosocial support, and community resilience activities including fruit tree planting, nutrition awareness, and community dialogue sessions, contributing to stronger social cohesion and sustainable rural recovery in Rubavu District.

<h3>Eco-Play: Turning the Eco Manual into Action</h3>
Eco-Play transforms environmental knowledge into hands-on action by turning the Eco Manual into an interactive learning and behavior-change experience for young people and communities.
Rather than treating climate and environmental education as traditional lectures, Eco-Play uses gamification, challenges, teamwork, creativity, storytelling, and experiential learning to help participants understand environmental issues and practice sustainable solutions in their daily lives.
The Eco Manual serves as a practical roadmap covering key environmental themes such as climate change, waste reduction, recycling, sustainable consumption, biodiversity, resource conservation, and eco-friendly behaviors. Eco-Play translates these themes into games, missions, workshops, challenges, and community activities that participants can experience, test, and replicate.
Implementation begins with training and preparing Eco Leaders who become facilitators and community change agents. They are equipped with the knowledge, tools, facilitation skills, and gamification techniques needed to deliver activities from the manual and adapt them to their local communities.
Through the National Gamification Camp, Eco-Play brings young people together to learn, design, prototype, and test environmental games and activities. Participants move from being learners to becoming game designers, facilitators, and environmental ambassadors, capable of taking the manual beyond the training room and into schools, villages, youth spaces, and communities.
The implementation model follows a simple journey:
Learn → Play → Create → Practice → Facilitate → Mobilize → Measure Impact
Eco-Play ultimately aims to make environmental action fun, practical, inclusive, and sustainable—proving that when young people are given the right tools and the freedom to create, environmental awareness can become collective action and lasting behavior change.

Dr. Naglaa Fathy Lithy is an Egyptian OB/GYN physician, humanitarian leader, and global advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with over 15 years of experience in development and public health. She currently serves as a Senior Health Specialist at the Egyptian Red Crescent, where she leads innovative, community-based health initiatives reaching underserved and marginalized populations across Egypt.
A Senior Fellow in Health Equity at The George Washington University, Dr. Naglaa is also the Membership and Communication Lead for the Global Roadmap for Action on Adolescent and Youth SRHR (GRA), hosted by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the founder of MG Consultancy, a social enterprise pioneering gamified education and edutainment approaches to promote SRHR, climate awareness, and youth empowerment.
Recognized globally for her impact, Dr. Naglaa is a recipient of the “120 Under 40” award by the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Institute and a member of the Forbes Middle East Youth Council. She leads the Global Youth Ambassadors Team in Egypt, empowering youth as health and climate leaders through innovative tools and grassroots action. In addition she is a regional expert for humanitarin and youth development projects and selected as member at Forbes Middle East Youth Council.
Her work bridges healthcare, innovation, and social change—designing scalable programs that integrate psychosocial support, education, and economic empowerment. Driven by lived experience and a deep commitment to equity, she champions inclusive solutions that amplify the voices of women and youth in vulnerable communities.
