Project Planet Heroes for Sustainability is a youth-led environmental initiative founded in 2021 with the vision of empowering people, particularly young people, to take responsibility for nature and contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. The initiative works primarily across Gujarat and other parts of India, engaging students, youth volunteers, educators, local communities, and environmental groups in grassroots environmental action.

The project focuses on environmental protection, climate awareness, sustainable consumption, biodiversity and wildlife conservation, environmental education, and community-led sustainability. A major component of our work is tree plantation and afforestation. Volunteers and local communities participate in plantation activities in schools, villages, public spaces, and environmentally affected areas, with an emphasis on native species such as neem, banyan, and peepal to support biodiversity and local ecosystems.

We also work to reduce plastic pollution through plastic-free awareness campaigns, community clean-up drives, cloth-bag distribution, waste-segregation awareness, recycling promotion, and advocacy for eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic.

One of our key initiatives is the “Saurashtra Coastal Cleaning Initiative” in Gujarat, which addresses coastal plastic pollution through regular clean-up activities and community awareness campaigns. The initiative contributes to cleaner coastlines, protection of marine ecosystems, and greater public responsibility towards coastal environments.

Biodiversity conservation is promoted through “Wings of Hope,” an initiative focused on sparrow conservation, habitat creation, and awareness about local biodiversity. “Breath of Life” focuses on air-pollution awareness, sustainable lifestyles, and reducing environmental waste.

Environmental education and youth empowerment are central to the project. Through the “Green Warriors” program, we conduct awareness sessions, workshops, and interactive activities in schools, colleges, and communities on climate change, biodiversity, wildlife conservation, renewable energy, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ecological responsibility, and sustainable living. Young participants are encouraged to become environmental leaders and take practical action in their communities.

With a growing network of volunteers and community participants, Project Planet Heroes for Sustainability seeks to transform environmental awareness into meaningful community action. Through tree plantation, clean-up campaigns, coastal conservation, biodiversity initiatives, environmental education, and youth engagement, the project aims to build environmentally responsible communities, strengthen youth participation, protect biodiversity, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable practices for present and future generations.

The goal of Project Planet Heroes for Sustainability is to create a more sustainable and environmentally aware society by encouraging young people, students, educators, and local communities to take an active role in protecting the environment.

The project was created in response to environmental challenges that we see around us, including plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, deforestation, poor waste management, and a lack of environmental awareness. We believe that environmental protection should not be limited to governments or organizations. Everyone can contribute, and young people in particular can play an important role in creating positive change in their communities.

Through Project Planet Heroes, we encourage people to learn about environmental issues and take practical action. Our activities include tree plantation, environmental education, plastic-free campaigns, clean-up drives, waste segregation and recycling awareness, biodiversity conservation, and climate-awareness activities. Our aim is to encourage people to develop more sustainable habits and continue these actions in their daily lives.

By 2030, Project Planet Heroes aims to:

• Plant and support the survival of more than 100,000 native trees across Gujarat and other parts of India.

• Promote the reduction of single-use plastic and encourage waste segregation and recycling practices in at least 100 communities and educational institutions.

• Reach more than 50,000 students and young people through environmental education, climate-awareness sessions, workshops, and sustainability activities.

• Build a network of more than 5,000 youth volunteers actively participating in environmental and climate action.

• Promote biodiversity conservation through initiatives such as “Wings of Hope,” which focuses on sparrow conservation, habitat creation, and awareness of local biodiversity.

Another important goal is to strengthen the “Saurashtra Coastal Cleaning Initiative” in Gujarat. Through regular coastal clean-up activities, awareness campaigns, and community participation, we aim to reduce marine plastic pollution, protect coastal biodiversity, and encourage people to take greater responsibility for coastal environments.

Through the “Green Warriors” program, we also want to help young people become environmental leaders in their schools, colleges, and communities. We want them not only to learn about climate change and sustainability but also to become active participants in solving environmental problems.

Ultimately, my goal is to make environmental protection a shared responsibility. I believe that even small actions can create meaningful change when people work together. Through Project Planet Heroes, I hope to inspire more young people and communities to take action, develop sustainable habits, and work together for a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.

Since 5 June 2021, Project Planet Heroes for Sustainability has been working across Gujarat, India, to promote environmental awareness and community-led action. More than 12,000 trees have been planted across villages, schools, public spaces, and urban areas, with local communities involved in plantation and care activities. The project has also supported green spaces, plantation sites, and community gardens in collaboration with schools, volunteers, and local institutions. More than 9,000 young people and volunteers have participated in plantation drives, awareness campaigns, clean-up activities, biodiversity initiatives, and other environmental actions.

The project has organized numerous environmental and coastal clean-up drives in schools, beaches, markets, and public places, helping remove plastic and other waste. Many educational institutions have participated in awareness activities promoting reduced plastic use, waste segregation, recycling, and sustainable practices. Around 1,200 young participants have received training, workshops, or mentorship focused on environmental leadership and community action. Through the “Wings of Hope” initiative, 8,500 sparrow nests and more than 4,000 feeders have been distributed and installed to support sparrow conservation and biodiversity awareness. The project has also conducted environmental workshops and awareness sessions for students in schools, colleges, and universities.

In 2026, Project Planet Heroes expanded its international engagement through 20+ online environmental sessions with young people from countries including Haiti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Argentina, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Singapore, and Costa Rica. More than 15 international NGOs and youth platforms have participated in environmental education and awareness activities. The project has also supported rainwater harvesting and water-conservation activities, including 20+ recharge systems. Around 500 farmers across 15+ villages have been introduced to composting and organic farming practices.

Women from local communities have also participated in sustainable livelihood activities such as eco-crafts, biodegradable products, and kitchen gardening through self-help groups. Circular-economy activities have included waste-segregation and recycling initiatives and the promotion of cloth bags to reduce dependence on single-use plastic. These activities have helped connect environmental protection with community participation and sustainable livelihoods.

Overall, Project Planet Heroes has engaged thousands of people directly and reached many more through environmental education, awareness campaigns, online sessions, and community activities. The project continues to grow through youth leadership, volunteer participation, local partnerships, and grassroots environmental action, with the aim of creating lasting environmental awareness and practical change in communities.
